A 47-year-old man has been charged after Queensland police allegedly found a homemade firearm following a proactive wanding operation at a licensed venue in Newtown on July 15. Police said officers were conducting the operation at a hotel on Bridge Street at about 1:30 a.m. when a man was allegedly seen with a suspected firearm. He allegedly concealed the weapon inside the venue before leaving on a bicycle and travelling west along Bridge Street. Officers later located and seized the firearm. Following an investigation, police attended an address in Wilsonton on July 20 and arrested the man. He has been charged with unlawful possession of a Category H firearm in a public place and possessing explosives without the required authority.
