Police have charged six teenagers with multiple offenses following their alleged involvement in the vandalism of gravesites in Cherbourg, Queensland. The incident, which involved the damage of a fence and several headstones, occurred early on July 3.

According to the Queensland Police Service, the vandalism was reported around 4:30 am when a vehicle was allegedly driven over the cemetery’s fence and headstones on Cemetery Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 2017 Toyota RAV4 and a 2006 Honda Accord, both reported stolen from Kingaroy earlier that day. A third vehicle, a 2012 Citroen C5, also linked to the suspects, was found nearby, severely damaged by fire.

Among the arrested, a 14-year-old boy from Cherbourg faces the most serious charges, including four counts of entering and committing an offense in a dwelling and additional charges related to vehicle theft and vandalism. He was presented at the Caloundra Children’s Court on July 4. The other suspects, ranging in age from 15 to 18, have been charged with various offenses, including unlawful use of a motor vehicle and are scheduled to appear in court throughout July and August.

The Queensland Police have urged anyone with further information to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation. Reports can be made anonymously via Crime Stoppers or through the Policelink service.
