Following a tragic incident in Runcorn last week, Queensland Police have charged a 30-year-old Kingston man for his involvement in a fatal traffic crash that resulted in the death of a 72-year-old female pedestrian. The accident occurred on Beenleigh Road around 7:30 pm on Sunday, June 28.

It is alleged that after striking the woman with a blue Toyota Hilux, the driver fled the scene. The victim sustained critical injuries and succumbed to them at the Princess Alexandra Hospital. Shortly after the incident, the involved vehicle was found burnt out on Avalon Road in Sheldon.

After thorough investigations, detectives from the Upper Mt Gravatt Criminal Investigation Branch located and apprehended the suspect on Monday, July 3, at approximately 2:40 pm in Bahrs Scrub. He faces multiple charges including dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death, leaving the scene without assisting the injured, tampering with evidence, and driving without a license as disqualified by court order.

The accused was denied police bail and is scheduled to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court today, July 4. The police urge anyone with more information to come forward and assist by contacting Policelink or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
