In a significant crackdown on crime in Gympie, Queensland, two men have been charged following extensive investigations by the Gympie Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB). These arrests stem from separate incidents involving serious criminal activities, including vehicle theft and endangerment of civilians. The first case involves a 33-year-old man from Gympie who was apprehended on July 1 after evading police since April 29. Initially, he avoided arrest on an outstanding warrant by hijacking a parked vehicle on Chappel Lane, containing a 35-year-old woman and three children, none of whom were known to him. The suspect later abandoned the vehicle and the occupants unharmed on Cooinda Street. His capture occurred following a failed escape attempt in a stolen Toyota Hilux on Noosa Road, Monkland. Police recovered a .22 calibre pistol and other stolen items from the vehicle. Charges against him include multiple counts of vehicle theft, deprivation of liberty, and other serious offenses. In a separate incident, a 44-year-old man was involved in a collision on January 23 while driving a purple Holden Commodore, which resulted in a hand injury to the other vehicle’s driver, a 70-year-old woman. The man fled the scene and has been linked to several other vehicle thefts and property crimes over the past year. He faces numerous charges, including vehicle theft, unlawful vehicle use, and drug possession. Both men have appeared before the Gympie Magistrates Court, with the 33-year-old being refused bail and the 44-year-old remanded in custody pending a further court appearance on August 30. Queensland Police urge anyone with information related to these or other crimes to contact Policelink or report anonymously via Crime Stoppers. These recent arrests underscore the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to address high-harm criminal activities in the community. Post navigation Search for Morayfield Hit-and-Run Rider
