In a disturbing event on the Sunshine Coast, a 30-year-old man from Currimundi has been charged with grievous bodily harm following severe injuries inflicted on a 9-week-old baby boy. The Sunshine Coast and Child Trauma detectives announced the charge after a meticulous six-week investigation into the incident that occurred in April. According to police reports, the infant was brought to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital around 11 pm on April 24, exhibiting life-threatening conditions that required immediate admission to the intensive care unit. The injuries were extensive, including significant brain and optical trauma and multiple fractures. The Child Protection and Investigation Unit, along with the Child Trauma Unit, launched a thorough inquiry to ascertain the origins of the injuries during the period from the child’s birth to the hospitalization date. The man, known to the child, was arrested yesterday afternoon in Warana. He faces a charge of grievous bodily harm, categorized as a domestic violence offence against a child, and was denied police bail. His court appearance is scheduled for Monday, June 8, at the Maroochydore Magistrates Court.
