A series of violent incidents in Childers on May 27, 2026, has led Queensland Police to charge a 36-year-old Bundaberg West man with murder among other serious offenses. The Queensland Police Service confirmed the charges following a spree that left one dead and several injured. The chaos began around 2:30 PM when the accused, driving a Subaru Liberty, intentionally reversed into a Mitsubishi Pajero on North Street, Childers. The impact led to a direct confrontation where the Subaru driver allegedly reversed again, this time into the Mitsubishi’s 65-year-old driver from Howard, who had exited his vehicle. The altercation escalated when the Subaru driver assaulted the older man multiple times before fleeing the scene. Minutes later, the violence continued on Whitebridge Road at North Isis, where the same driver attacked a 78-year-old pedestrian with a metal pole, resulting in the victim’s immediate death. The rampage didn’t stop there; another assault occurred shortly afterward on Crescent Street involving a 66-year-old man. The series of attacks ended with the assailant being restrained by the public until the police arrived to make the arrest. Authorities highlighted that the victims appear to have no known connections to the attacker. Charged with murder, attempted murder, acts intended to maim, dangerous operation of a vehicle, and evasion, the accused will face the Gladstone Magistrates Court via video link today. Queensland Police are urging anyone with additional information or footage of the incidents to come forward to assist with ongoing investigations.
