Officer Hit by Stolen Car

A Queensland police officer was injured after allegedly being struck by a stolen vehicle in South Mackay on May 24, while the driver remains at large. The officer suffered a foot injury and was taken to hospital.

Police said they received information about 10 a.m. that a stolen white Toyota RAV4 was at a Paradise Street address. When officers arrived, the male driver allegedly reversed from the driveway, striking two police vehicles. A male constable who had exited a police vehicle to arrest the driver was then hit by the RAV4.

The vehicle was later seen in the Paget and Ooralea areas before crashing on the Mackay Ring Road at about 10:20 a.m. The driver, the vehicle’s only occupant, fled on foot and had not been located. The RAV4 had reportedly been stolen from a residence in Cranbrook, Townsville, at about 2:30 a.m. the same day.

A 20-year-old woman arrested at the Paradise Street scene has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle. Bail was refused, and she is due to appear in Mackay Magistrates Court on May 25. Police are seeking dashcam footage from people who travelled through South Mackay around the time of the incident, quoting reference QP2600987948.
