Europe Targets Convicted Fugitives

Europol has launched a Europe-wide campaign seeking public assistance in locating convicted fugitives who remain at large despite receiving prison sentences of at least five years. The initiative features cases from 11 countries and is coordinated through the EU Most Wanted platform.

Participating authorities from Belgium, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Hungary, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania and Sweden have each highlighted nationally wanted offenders. The individuals were convicted of crimes including murder, drug trafficking, armed robbery, extortion, racketeering and participation in criminal organisations.

The campaign aims to counter fugitives’ ability to evade justice by moving across borders and remaining out of public view. Europol said each person featured has already been convicted, but has not yet served their sentence, leaving cases unresolved for victims and their families.

Members of the public are encouraged to review the profiles on the EU Most Wanted website and submit information that could assist investigators. Tips can be provided anonymously through the platform, which is managed by national authorities through the European Network of Fugitive Active Search Teams and supported by Europol.
