Teen Charged After Runaway Bay Damage

A 13-year-old boy has been charged following alleged anti-social behaviour and wilful damage at a sports precinct in Runaway Bay on May 14, Queensland Police said.

Police allege that about 5 p.m., a group of teenagers riding non-compliant e-bikes damaged sporting fields and public amenities on Oxley Drive. The group allegedly interfered with members of the public and continued the behaviour after officers arrived.

Following investigations, police executed a search warrant at a Paradise Point address on May 15. The boy faces multiple charges, including serious assault of police, dangerous operation of a vehicle, wilful damage, public nuisance and traffic-related offences. He is due to appear in Southport Children’s Court on May 27.

Investigations into the involvement of others are continuing. Police are appealing for witnesses, as well as anyone with relevant CCTV, dashcam or mobile phone footage, to come forward. Authorities also reminded riders and parents about the safety and legal requirements applying to e-bikes and other personal mobility devices.
