This Mother’s Day, the Queensland Police Service (QPS) celebrated the indispensable contributions of its “Mums in Blue,” recognizing the dual roles they play as mothers and integral members of the police force. From front-line duties to essential administrative roles, these women bolster the strength and efficiency of the service.

Senior Sergeant Crystal Moore, a mother of four and leader of North Brisbane District’s Crime Prevention and Cross Cultural Liaison Units, emphasizes the unique qualities mothers bring to the force. “Our roles as mothers bring compassion and a unique perspective that enrich our professional responsibilities, enhancing the diverse and inclusive culture within the QPS,” she stated.

The QPS narrative is also shared by Inspector Marilyn Jackson from the Mackay Whitsunday District, who highlights the natural alignment of motherhood skills with policing roles. “The skills we develop as mothers, such as patience, empathy, and effective communication, are invaluable in fostering community trust and understanding,” Inspector Jackson remarked. She, along with Senior Sergeant Moore and Sergeant Alicia Finigan, a Forensic Science Group fingerprints officer, are examples of how the QPS supports women in balancing demanding careers and family life, proving the profession’s compatibility with motherhood.

The celebration extends beyond individual stories, reflecting the broader commitment of the QPS to support women in their ranks, providing diverse career paths and opportunities. This Mother’s Day, the QPS not only expressed gratitude towards their service women but also extended warm wishes to mothers everywhere, acknowledging their profound impact on families and communities across Queensland.
