President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine, alongside Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi, recently met with troops of the 31st Separate Mechanized Brigade defending the Oleksandrivskyi sector. This visit occurred at the brigade’s command post, located at the strategic junction of the Donetsk, Dnipro, and Zaporizhzhia regions.

During the visit, reports were presented to President Zelenskyy detailing ongoing defensive operations despite an announced ceasefire, with the enemy continuing aggressive actions. Brigade commander Ivan Shalamaha briefed on the operational status and the coordination among units involved in counteroffensive measures aimed at pushing adversaries back towards the Dnipro region’s borders.

Highlighting the event, President Zelenskyy awarded the Orders of Bohdan Khmelnytsky, III class, and the Orders “For Courage,” II and III class, to the brigade members. He expressed profound gratitude for their bravery and dedication to defending Ukraine’s sovereignty. “I am confident that, having defeated one form of Nazism, we will defeat another as well,” Zelenskyy remarked, emphasizing the historical and moral parallels of the conflict.

Furthermore, discussions covered the integration and performance of foreign nationals in the brigade, alongside innovations such as the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for logistics, which constitute 60% of the brigade’s logistics operations. The President assured that the potential for separate funding for brigade-level innovation and research and development would be thoroughly explored by relevant military and governmental bodies.
