In a recent operation aimed at curbing dangerous driving, Queensland Police have charged an 18-year-old from Crestmead with drug-driving as part of Operation Interpose. The incident occurred late at night on May 1st when police intercepted a defective Ford Falcon sedan on Yarrabilba Drive.

The young driver, who was under strict late-night driving restrictions, tested positive in a roadside saliva analysis. Alongside the drug-driving charge, he faces multiple violations, including operating a defective vehicle and driving with more than one non-family passenger under 21 during restricted hours. Scheduled to appear before the Beaudesert Magistrates Court on June 30, the driver also received fines totaling $1166 and seven demerit points, resulting in a suspended license.

Operation Interpose, a broader initiative by the Logan officers over the long weekend, resulted in 4,159 roadside tests. The operation not only netted 16 individuals under the influence of alcohol but also 19 drug-influenced drivers. Additionally, police issued over 100 traffic infringement notices for various offenses and intensified their high-visibility patrols across the state.

The Queensland Police Service emphasizes the importance of road safety, reminding residents that enforcement alone is not enough to prevent dangerous driving behaviors. They advocate for personal responsibility on the roads, underscoring the risks associated with impaired driving, speeding, and other hazardous actions.
