Strasbourg, April 24, 2026 – In a move to enhance European tourism, Parliament rapporteur Daniel Attard will address the media on the latest strategies to improve connectivity, preserve cultural heritage, and promote local excellence. The briefing is scheduled for Tuesday, April 28, at 17:30 CET in the European Parliament, following a crucial vote on a new tourism resolution.

Daniel Attard, representing the S&D group from Malta, will elaborate on the European Parliament’s proposals aimed at alleviating overcrowding in popular destinations by encouraging travel to lesser-known areas. These include rural heartlands and remote mountain regions. The initiative also includes upgrades in transport links, with a focus on supporting electric vehicle leasing, enhancing charging infrastructure, and increasing cross-border night train services. Additionally, updates to the EU framework for short-term rentals are anticipated.

The press conference, to be held in the Daphne Caruana Galizia room, will be accessible in person for accredited media and remotely via the Interactio platform. Live webstreaming will also be available through the Parliament’s Multimedia Centre, with interpretation services offered in multiple languages including English, French, and German.

This briefing comes ahead of the anticipated sustainable EU tourism strategy, which aims to reinforce the sector that significantly contributes to the EU’s GDP and employs millions. Attendance confirmation for media representatives is requested via email to [email protected].
