Police in Gatton have charged a 26-year-old local man with several offences, including mid-range drink driving and driving an unregistered vehicle, following a crash into a power pole. The incident, which involved a 2011 Ford Fiesta, occurred on the afternoon of April 23 at the intersection of William Street and Cochrane Street.

Responding to the crash at around 2 PM, police and emergency services found that the driver and his male passenger were uninjured. However, the driver allegedly refused to undergo a roadside breath test and was subsequently arrested. The charges against him also include contravening directions from a police officer and failing to comply with licensing conditions. He is scheduled to appear in the Gatton Magistrates Court on May 26.

The Queensland Police Service emphasized their commitment to reducing road fatalities and serious injuries but stated that enforcement alone is not enough to curb dangerous driving behaviours. They urged all drivers to make responsible choices, highlighting that behaviors such as driving under the influence, speeding, and driving while distracted or fatigued, greatly increase the risk of accidents. The statement concluded with a stern reminder that such actions will not be tolerated and that police enforcement can be expected at any time to ensure road safety.
