Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s administration has intensified discussions on Ukraine’s potential full membership in the European Union. This development followed a recent meeting between Ihor Zhovkva, Deputy Head of the President’s Office, and Florian Hahn, Germany’s Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office.

During the meeting, Zhovkva expressed gratitude towards Germany for its ongoing support since Russia’s invasion and discussed the progress Ukraine has made in adhering to the EU’s Association Agreement. According to Zhovkva, Ukraine has completed 75% of the necessary reforms and is “fully technically prepared” to commence negotiations on EU membership clusters.

The talks also touched upon the strengthening of security relations between Ukraine and Germany, including the potential signing of a new Drone Deal. This deal is part of broader negotiations aimed at bolstering Ukraine’s defense capabilities amidst ongoing conflict pressures. Furthermore, Zhovkva emphasized the need for increased pressure on Russia to foster a peaceful resolution to the conflict, highlighting the critical role of international support in these endeavors.
