A serious assault in Carrara has left one man hospitalized and a woman treated for injuries early Thursday morning, according to the Queensland Police Service.

The incident occurred at approximately 4 a.m. when a 38-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman were awakened by their dogs barking. They noticed an unfamiliar light in their lounge room. Upon investigating, the male resident encountered an intruder, leading to a physical confrontation. The homeowner sustained wounds to his torso, right shoulder, and a facial cut, while the female victim suffered a chest injury.

Following the altercation, the assailant fled the scene. The male victim was subsequently admitted to the hospital in a serious but stable condition, whereas the female victim received treatment and was released.

Later in the day, an 18-year-old man from Carrara was taken into police custody. He is currently assisting with the investigation. Queensland Police have urged anyone with additional information or relevant footage to come forward and assist by contacting Policelink or Crime Stoppers.
