Three Charged Over Southport Car Fire

Queensland police have charged three men over the alleged theft and subsequent burning of a utility vehicle at Southport on March 15.

Police allege that two men used an accelerant to set fire to a white 2012 Toyota Hilux outside a business on Davenport Street at about 12:50 a.m. The vehicle, which had been reported stolen during a burglary at Logan Village in January, was destroyed. The fire also damaged a nearby Suzuki Grand Vitara and a business awning.

Detectives allege the two men and a third man fled in a white 2020 Holden Trax. Search warrants at properties in Goodna, Chambers Flat and Riverview between March 26 and 31 led to the arrests of three men aged 37, 27 and 19. Police said the youngest man was found with significant burns to his face and body.

Each man has been charged with three counts of arson, two counts of attempted arson and one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle. The 37-year-old Chambers Flat man and 27-year-old Goodna man have been remanded in custody and are due to return to Southport Magistrates Court on April 9. The 19-year-old Riverview man is scheduled to appear in court on April 1.
