In a significant development on March 3, 2026, Dutch Police, under the aegis of Europol’s Operational Taskforce GRIMM, conducted multiple house searches resulting in the arrest of a suspect linked to a series of explosions in Germany during July and August 2025. The arrested individual is believed to have facilitated the transportation of two minors, who were previously apprehended and are currently in pretrial detention for their roles in the attacks in Hessen, specifically in Frankfurt am Main and Taunusstein.

The crackdown is part of a broader initiative by Europol’s Taskforce GRIMM, which encompasses efforts from eleven European countries to combat the emerging threat of Violence-as-a-Service (VaaS). VaaS often involves criminal networks hiring out violent acts, frequently recruiting young people through online platforms. These recruits are lured by promises of money, status, or a sense of belonging, only to find themselves entrenched in violent activities across national borders.

Taskforce GRIMM’s strategy includes sharing intelligence, mapping the networks of VaaS providers, dismantling these criminal groups, and working collaboratively with technology companies to curb online recruitment. This coordinated response is crucial for addressing the exploitation of youth in transnational criminal activities and ensuring public safety across Europe.
