In a routine traffic operation, Queensland Police apprehended a 24-year-old man from Ashgrove after discovering nearly half a kilogram of cannabis in his vehicle during a school zone speed enforcement in Springwood on February 10, 2026.

During the patrol on Dennis Road, the Logan police detected a blue Mazda 3 traveling at 51km/h in a zone marked for 40km/h. After issuing a Traffic Infringement Notice for speeding, officers encountered a strong scent of cannabis emanating from the car. Although initial tests for alcohol and drugs returned negative, a subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a sizeable quantity of cannabis and over $3,000 in cash hidden in the boot.

The driver now faces charges for possessing dangerous drugs and suspected proceeds of crime, with a court appearance scheduled at Beenleigh Magistrates Court on March 30. The Queensland Police underscore their commitment to road safety and emphasize that driving behaviors such as speeding and substance influence pose severe risks to community safety.

The public is urged to report any suspicious activities to the police and can anonymously contact Crime Stoppers. Queensland Police continue their vigilant enforcement to prevent traffic-related incidents and drug-related offenses.
