An 18-year-old from Middle Ridge has been charged with multiple offenses following a fatal traffic incident in Hodgson Vale last year, as per the Queensland Police Service. The charges were announced by the Forensic Crash Unit after a detailed investigation into the accident that occurred on the evening of December 31, 2024.

The accused, who was 17 at the time of the crash, allegedly drove a white single cab Hilux that struck a 57-year-old pedestrian from Toowoomba near Hazelmere Court in Hodgson Vale. Despite the severity of the incident, it is alleged that the driver did not stay at the scene. The victim was urgently taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital but succumbed to his injuries weeks later.

The young driver now faces charges including driving without due care and attention resulting in death, failing to remain at the scene and render assistance, failing to comply with driver duties, and operating a defective vehicle. He is slated to appear in the Toowoomba Children’s Court on January 8, 2026. Meanwhile, authorities continue to seek additional information from the public regarding the crash and urge anyone with relevant details to come forward. The Forensic Crash Unit emphasizes the importance of community assistance in piecing together the events leading up to the tragedy.
