President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine recently convened with Lithuania’s newly appointed Minister of National Defense, Robertas Kaunas. The meeting underscored a strengthening alliance between the two nations amid ongoing regional security concerns.

During the discussions, which took place on November 21, 2025, Zelenskyy expressed gratitude towards Lithuania for its consistent support since the conflict’s inception. He specifically thanked the Lithuanian people and conveyed his regards to Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda, highlighting the deep personal and political ties between the leaders.

Kaunas reiterated Lithuania’s commitment to supporting Ukraine “for as long as necessary,” aligning with Lithuania’s firm stance on regional security matters. The leaders also explored avenues for enhancing joint defense capabilities, including the prospects of collaborative defense production.

A significant part of their dialogue focused on the PURL initiative, through which Lithuania has aided Ukraine in procuring American weaponry, essential for defending civilian infrastructures against missile and drone attacks. Zelenskyy noted the critical importance of PAC-3 missiles provided through this program. Additionally, the discussions touched upon the SAFE instrument aimed at bolstering Europe’s overall defense posture, with a particular focus on enhancing Ukraine’s defensive strength.

This meeting not only reaffirms the robust bilateral relations between Ukraine and Lithuania but also highlights the broader collaborative efforts within Europe to address and potentially mitigate regional security challenges.
