In a recent operation, the Queensland Police Service’s Innisfail Highway Patrol Unit apprehended a 33-year-old man from Wongaling Beach for severe traffic violations in Mission Beach. The incident occurred just before 1 PM on November 10 when the man was caught driving a Holden Cruze erratically at high speeds on Porter Promenade. During the roadside intervention, the driver underwent a breath test, which revealed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.318 percent, six times over the legal limit. Subsequently, he was charged with high-range drink driving, speeding, and failing to adhere to road rules regarding lane usage. His license was immediately suspended, and he is set to appear in the Tully Magistrates Court on December 4. Sergeant Rob Smith, the Officer in Charge at Mission Beach Station, emphasized the dangers of drink driving and speeding. He noted that these behaviors significantly contribute to serious and fatal accidents in Queensland. Sergeant Smith highlighted how alcohol impairs essential driving capabilities like judgment, coordination, and perception, urging drivers who have been drinking to opt for alternative transportation methods to ensure road safety. The Queensland Police Service continues its commitment to reducing road fatalities by educating drivers on the ‘Fatal Five’ risk factors: speeding, impaired driving, non-use of seatbelts, fatigue, and distraction. Community members are encouraged to report any suspicious activity or information related to traffic violations anonymously through Crime Stoppers or Policelink. Road safety remains a shared responsibility, and the police urge the public to stay informed and cautious to help decrease the incidence of traffic-related incidents.
