Maryborough police have partnered with local support agencies to provide aid to the city’s vulnerable populations, focusing on individuals experiencing homelessness. This initiative, known as Operation Xray Navie, was conducted in collaboration with the Fraser Coast Regional Council and several state agencies including the Department of Housing and Public Works, Queensland Health, and Queensland Corrective Services.

The operation primarily targeted homeless individuals in a park on Kent Street, offering them connections to permanent housing solutions and ongoing support services. The engagement, which concluded on October 29, has already seen several individuals relocated to more stable living conditions.

Superintendent Anne Vogler of the Wide Bay Burnett District emphasized the collaborative nature of the operation. “Our approach is not about displacing people but rather ensuring each individual receives the necessary support tailored to their specific needs,” Vogler stated. She highlighted the ongoing commitments from multiple government bodies aimed at addressing homelessness comprehensively and proactively.

This initiative serves as a potential model for similar strategies in other districts, demonstrating a holistic and compassionate approach to complex social issues like homelessness. The police and their partner agencies plan to continue these efforts, advocating for the community’s vulnerable individuals and addressing any gaps in the support system.
