In a recent diplomatic engagement, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister of New Zealand Christopher Luxon discussed the intensification of sanctions against Russia. The meeting, which took place on June 25, highlighted the ongoing support and solidarity New Zealand has extended to Ukraine since the onset of Russia’s large-scale invasion.

During the discussions, President Zelenskyy expressed gratitude for New Zealand’s humanitarian and military aid, including a new assistance package, emphasizing the importance of global support in Ukraine’s struggle against aggression. Christopher Luxon reiterated New Zealand’s commitment, stating, “We may be far from Ukraine, but New Zealand stands with you because you are fighting for the values we believe in.”

The leaders explored future collaborations, particularly in military equipment production within Ukraine and initiatives to counter the Iranian Shahed drones used by Russia. The proposed initiative includes both the production of interceptors and the development of electronic warfare systems to bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities.

Additionally, concerns over Russia’s partnerships with Iran and North Korea were addressed, with both leaders agreeing on the necessity of robust, coordinated sanctions targeting all economic sectors that enable Russia’s military activities. President Zelenskyy extended an invitation to Prime Minister Luxon to visit Ukraine, further solidifying the partnership between the two nations.
