Queensland police have launched Operation Redline to target dangerous and antisocial driving across the Sunshine Coast, including speeding, excessive noise and smoke, burnouts and other traffic offences. The highly visible operation will focus on known problem areas such as Mooloolaba and Maroochydore, with enforcement conducted across the district alongside community stakeholders.

Police said a 19-year-old Sippy Downs man was charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle following an alleged burnout involving a grey Mercedes-Benz at Alexandra Parade, Alexandra Headland, on October 5. He is due to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on December 1.

In a separate incident, a 33-year-old Buderim man was charged after police allegedly observed a white Toyota Hilux performing a burnout on David Low Way at Diddillibah on October 23. The vehicle was impounded, and the man is due to face court on November 24. A 55-year-old Bli Bli man was also fined $552 after an alleged burnout involving a Holden Commodore on Kronk Court on October 31; that vehicle was impounded.

Acting Inspector Jonathan McBride said reckless driving placed all road users at risk and would not be tolerated. Residents are encouraged to report dangerous driving to 13HOON on 134 666, Policelink on 131 444 or online, with Triple Zero to be used for immediate life-threatening emergencies.
