Members of the European Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee will visit The Hague on Oct. 28 to meet representatives of the International Criminal Court and other legal institutions. The one-day mission is intended to reaffirm support for international justice, multilateralism and the rules-based international order. Committee Chair Ilhan Kyuchyuk will lead the delegation, joined by MEPs Axel Voss and Lara Wolters. The lawmakers are expected to discuss developments in the international legal system and reiterate the European Union’s support for the ICC amid what Parliament has described as growing pressure and sanctions against the court. The delegation will also meet officials from the Hague Conference on Private International Law to discuss cooperation in civil, family, commercial and intellectual property law. Talks will focus on international legal instruments and future areas of collaboration. Meetings with representatives of the Dutch Whistleblowers Authority will address the practical implementation of the EU Whistleblower Protection Directive. The Legal Affairs Committee has previously helped negotiate the directive and is also working on initiatives related to strengthening international justice institutions.
