A 31-year-old Surfers Paradise man has been issued a notice to appear in court after an alleged dangerous-driving incident that left two pedestrians injured on the Gold Coast.

Queensland Police said a Toyota Hilux was allegedly being driven dangerously along the Esplanade at Surfers Paradise shortly before 9 p.m. on Friday, October 23, before colliding with two pedestrians near Staghorn Avenue. One man was initially trapped beneath the vehicle. Both victims were taken to hospital and were in stable condition.

Police said witnesses tried to restrain the driver, who allegedly fled before officers arrived. A police dog later located him in a garden bed. The man sustained a dog bite during his arrest, received treatment and was subsequently discharged from hospital.

He has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failing to provide a blood specimen and failing to fulfill duties after a traffic crash. He is scheduled to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on November 13.
