Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on Europe and the United States to increase pressure on Russia to establish an energy ceasefire and reduce the risk of further escalation. He made the appeal during an online address to the Warsaw Security Forum on Oct. 12, according to Ukraine’s presidential office. Zelenskyy said Russian strikes had continued to target Ukraine’s energy infrastructure despite a proposal for an energy ceasefire. He alleged that attacks affected power plants, a gas-production facility and a gas station, leaving parts of Kyiv without water and electricity and causing additional damage in Kharkiv. Russia has not been cited in the release as responding to the claims. The Ukrainian president said Kyiv was prepared to halt long-range strikes on Russian oil facilities if Moscow stopped attacking Ukraine’s energy system and critical infrastructure. He also urged the United States to help ensure compliance with any truce and called for continued military assistance, including F-16 munitions, interceptor missiles and funding for weapons and drone production. Zelenskyy thanked Poland, Norway and other partners for supporting Ukraine’s energy needs and warned that Russia could conduct further hybrid operations against Europe. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who also addressed the forum, said supporting Ukraine was essential to protecting European sovereignty and security. The Warsaw Security Forum is an annual conference focused on security challenges facing NATO, the European Union and neighboring countries. Post navigation Zelenskyy Calls for Energy Ceasefire
