Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for stronger international pressure on Russia after reporting attacks on Ukrainian energy-related infrastructure. In statements on Oct. 12, Zelenskyy said Russia had violated an energy ceasefire and urged the United States and Europe to help enforce an end to attacks on energy facilities.

Zelenskyy said Russian drones, including Shahed-type unmanned aircraft, struck a gas-production facility and a gas station, while repair crews continued working to restore damage from earlier attacks. He also said air raid alerts and strikes had continued throughout the day.

Speaking at the Warsaw Security Forum, Zelenskyy said an energy ceasefire could help create conditions for broader de-escalation and eventually contribute to ending the war. He called on the United States to use its capabilities and on European countries to increase pressure on Moscow.

The Ukrainian president also welcomed a new European Union sanctions package targeting about 1,600 individuals and legal entities linked to Russia’s military-industrial complex, including those involved in producing ballistic missiles and Shahed drones. Zelenskyy later discussed Russia’s reported response to the ceasefire proposal in a phone call with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
