Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband visited Pryluky in the Chernihiv region to honor 22 people killed in a Russian missile strike on a five-story apartment building. Five children were among those killed, according to the Ukrainian president’s office. The Kh-101 missile strike occurred overnight on Oct. 7, destroying one section of the building and heavily damaging another. Authorities said 54 people were injured, while more than 125 apartment buildings and private homes, along with vehicles, businesses, schools, kindergartens and shops, were damaged across the city. Emergency crews continued search-and-rescue operations for more than 24 hours. Officials said 31 people were saved, including 15 residents pulled from the rubble and 16 who were evacuated. Zelenskyy instructed regional and local authorities to provide temporary housing and develop permanent homes for those who lost theirs. Miliband condemned attacks on civilians and announced additional humanitarian and energy-sector assistance for Ukraine. The United Kingdom also imposed new sanctions targeting Russia’s military-industrial efforts, shadow fleet, oil companies, cryptocurrency sector and other sources of war financing. Ukrainian officials said the missile used in the attack contained more than 100 foreign-made components and called for stronger enforcement of sanctions against Russia.
