Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said international partners are sending additional munitions for F-16 fighter jets as Kyiv works to strengthen its defenses against Russian strikes. In an address on Oct. 5, he said Ukraine had discussed security cooperation with the leaders of France, Poland and the Netherlands.

Zelenskyy said Ukrainian pilots had begun training on French Rafale aircraft, describing the move as support for both Ukraine’s air defense and France’s defense industry. He also said Ukraine was preparing new contracts for air defense systems and missiles, while calling for increased anti-ballistic capabilities to protect critical infrastructure.

The president said Ukraine was expanding measures to counter drones, including specialized crews and interceptor systems. He did not provide details of potential new agreements but said funding was available and urged manufacturers to accelerate production.

Zelenskyy also accused Russia of continuing to prioritize attacks over diplomacy. He said a vessel carrying corn in neutral Black Sea waters had been struck, killing its captain and leaving another crew member missing. He added that more than 50 people were injured during a Russian bombing in Kharkiv, where rescue teams continued searching through the rubble.
