Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and French President Emmanuel Macron discussed defense support, new weapons deliveries and plans to train Ukrainian pilots on French Rafale aircraft during a phone call on Oct. 5, according to Ukraine’s presidential office.

Zelenskyy said France was preparing additional defense deliveries and that a new package was expected to arrive in Ukraine soon. The leaders also discussed Russia’s ongoing attacks and Ukraine’s broader defense needs.

Training for Ukrainian pilots on Rafale aircraft in France is expected to begin in the near future. Zelenskyy described the initiative as an important step for Ukraine’s combat aviation.

The presidents also reviewed cooperation on producing French missiles and aerial bombs in Ukraine, as well as preparations for the FREYJA anti-ballistic program. They agreed to discuss the initiative in greater detail at a future meeting.
