Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy honored the memory of fallen Ukrainian service members on Oct. 1 during the country’s Day of Defenders of Ukraine. The ceremony took place at the Wall of Remembrance on Mykhailivska Square in Kyiv.

Zelenskyy observed a moment of silence for the soldiers who died defending the country. He said Ukraine’s defenders remain a central pillar of the nation, holding the front line, protecting communities and supporting their fellow service members.

In a message shared on social media, the president said the country remembers those who gave their lives so that Ukrainians could live and build the future of Ukraine.
