Queensland police have issued notices to appear to two drivers after detecting alleged unlicensed driving and suspected drug- and alcohol-related offences at Kinkuna during two consecutive days of school-holiday patrols. Bundaberg Highway Patrol officers were conducting high-visibility patrols under Operation Roscoesoma when they intercepted a Toyota Hilux on Palm Beach Road at about 4:35 p.m. on September 25. Police allege the 36-year-old Redcliffe driver returned a positive roadside drug test and was driving while disqualified. He is due to appear in Bundaberg Magistrates Court on November 2. The following day, at about 3:40 p.m., officers stopped a Holden Colorado on the sand near Beach Road. Police allege the 22-year-old Pacific Haven driver returned a positive roadside breath test and was driving while restricted. He is scheduled to appear in court on November 16. Operation Roscoesoma has targeted speeding, mobile phone use, seatbelt compliance, fatigue, and drink- and drug-driving at Coonar and Kinkuna beaches since its launch in 2024. Bundaberg Highway Patrol Officer in Charge Sergeant Gordan Hard reminded beach users that road rules apply on beaches and warned that police would continue patrols throughout the school holidays.
