Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged members of the U.S. House of Representatives to strengthen sanctions against Russia and provide ballistic missile interceptors during a meeting in New York on Sept. 24, according to Ukraine’s presidential office. Zelenskyy met with Representatives Brian Fitzpatrick, Michael Quigley, Marcy Kaptur, Jared Golden, Joe Wilson and Gregory Meeks. Discussions included the proposed Lindsey Graham sanctions legislation and measures targeting Russia and entities that support its war effort. During the meeting, Russia launched a ballistic missile strike on Kyiv, the presidential office said. Zelenskyy reported that civilian infrastructure, residential buildings, a maternity hospital, energy facilities and logistics sites were among the targets. Two people were reported killed, while others were injured and emergency crews worked to rescue people trapped in a building. Zelenskyy said continued attacks showed that pressure on Russia had not yet become strong enough to end the war.
