Ukraine and Australia signed a 10-year agreement on long-term security cooperation, pledging continued support for Kyiv’s defense against Russia and collaboration on military, economic, humanitarian and diplomatic issues. The agreement was signed on Sept. 23, 2026, by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. Under the pact, Australia will continue providing security assistance based on its capabilities and resources. The countries will explore cooperation on air defense, missiles, drones, training, defense-industry projects and joint production, while Australia will maintain its participation in NATO-led support efforts and the Ukraine Defense Contact Group’s Drone Capability Coalition. The agreement also covers cyber and intelligence cooperation, border security, energy assistance, nuclear safety, humanitarian aid and Ukraine’s postwar recovery. Australia said it would consider further support for reconstruction, investment, mine action and the development of Ukraine’s energy sector. The two countries reaffirmed support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as efforts to achieve a comprehensive and lasting peace. They also pledged to coordinate sanctions against Russia, support international accountability mechanisms and consult within 24 hours if Ukraine faces a future armed attack after current hostilities have ended.
