A 23-year-old Noosa man has been fined more than $3,100 after Queensland police detected him speeding twice within 10 minutes in the Gympie region. State Highway Patrol officers first intercepted the driver at about 4:15 p.m. after observing him travelling at 155 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on the Bruce Highway near Coles Creek. He received a $1,986 fine, eight demerit points and a six-month licence suspension. Police also fined him $345 after identifying an illegally altered licence plate on the vehicle. Less than 10 minutes later, Gympie Highway Patrol officers detected the man travelling at 90 km/h in a 60 km/h zone on the Old Bruce Highway near Traveston. He was issued another infringement notice, attracting a $777 fine and four demerit points. Acting Inspector Paul Kelly said the repeated speeding offences showed a serious disregard for road safety. The enforcement action was carried out as part of Operation Interpose, a Queensland Police initiative involving increased patrols and enforcement targeting dangerous driving.
