A 24-year-old Coomera man has been charged after police allege he stole a truck in Paradise Point and was involved in a hit-and-run crash on the Gold Coast on September 2. Queensland Police allege the man took an Isuzu FRR truck from Ephraim Island Bridge at about 11 a.m. The vehicle was later allegedly involved in a collision with a Mercedes-Benz C200 on Hope Island Road around 12:30 p.m. The Mercedes driver was not physically injured. Police allege the truck was abandoned on Ferry Road, Southport, about an hour later, after which the man fled on foot. Officers arrested him following a short chase. He faces charges including unlawful use of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a vehicle, driving without a licence, failing to comply with duties after a crash and obstructing police. The man was remanded in custody and was due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on September 3. Police cited reference number QP2601714206 in the release.
