Strikes Hit Kyiv, Zelenskyy Visits Aftermath

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited sites in Kyiv damaged by Russian strikes overnight on May 24, as emergency crews continued search-and-rescue operations and aid efforts. The attacks damaged a residential building on Dehtiarivska Street and the National Museum “Chornobyl,” Ukrainian officials said.

Part of the residential building’s section was destroyed from the first through fifth floors. Two people were reported killed and two others remained missing, while more than 70 people were injured in the capital. Humanitarian headquarters were operating across Kyiv to assist residents affected by the strikes.

Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko told Zelenskyy that about 670 rescuers and more than 130 pieces of equipment had been deployed in Kyiv. Emergency operations and the evacuation of museum exhibits were also underway at the damaged Chornobyl Museum, which had reopened less than a month earlier following reconstruction.

According to the Ukrainian government, Russia launched a combined attack involving 90 missiles, including 36 ballistic missiles, and 600 drones. Kyiv was the main target, while the Kyiv, Poltava, Kirovohrad and Cherkasy regions also came under attack. Ukrainian authorities said four people were killed and about 100 injured nationwide.
