EU Parliament Backs Baltic States

The European Parliament’s Conference of Presidents has expressed full solidarity with Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, rejecting what it called unfounded Russian allegations that the Baltic states are preparing hostile actions or allowing their territory, airspace or military facilities to be used for attacks against Russia.

In a statement dated May 21, 2026, the parliamentary leaders said the accusations were part of a broader campaign of intimidation, disinformation and provocation targeting European Union member states. Latvia has categorically denied the allegations and described them as disinformation.

The statement also cited repeated incursions by unidentified drones into the airspace and territory of the Baltic states, calling such incidents unacceptable and warning that they are contributing to increased regional tensions and instability.

The Conference of Presidents urged the European Commission, the EU’s foreign policy chief and the Council to work with NATO to strengthen airspace monitoring, counter-drone capabilities and regional situational awareness. It also called for stronger efforts to counter disinformation, protect the EU’s eastern flank and maintain unity among member states.
