A 71-year-old woman has died after a police vehicle collided with her at the intersection of Sheridan and Lily streets in Cairns North on the morning of May 21, Queensland Police said. The crash occurred at about 7 a.m. Officers provided immediate medical assistance before the woman, from Trinity Beach, was taken to Cairns Hospital, where she was later declared deceased. Lily Street remains closed between Digger and Sheridan streets, and motorists have been urged to avoid the area. The Forensic Crash Unit and Ethical Standards Command are investigating, with oversight from the Crime and Corruption Commission and the Coroner.
