Teen Fined for Dalveen Speeding

A 17-year-old P-plate driver has been fined $1,919 and had his licence suspended for six months after allegedly being caught travelling 147 km/h in a 100 km/h zone at Dalveen, Queensland.

Stanthorpe Highway Patrol officers detected the 2012 Nissan Navara utility on the New England Highway at about 12:40 p.m. on May 17. Police said the Lawnton teenager was travelling 47 km/h above the posted speed limit.

The driver was issued a traffic infringement notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 40 km/h. He also received eight demerit points.

Warwick Patrol Group Acting Inspector Gerard Brady said dangerous speeding reduced a driver’s ability to react and stop safely. The Queensland Police Service said high-visibility patrols would continue across the state under Operation Interpose to deter dangerous driving.
