Zelenskyy Seeks Stronger Security Guarantees

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed a proposed Easter ceasefire, security guarantees and postwar reconstruction during a video call with representatives of U.S. President Donald Trump, according to Ukraine’s presidential office.

The April 1 call included U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. Zelenskyy said a holiday ceasefire could demonstrate that diplomatic efforts remain capable of producing results.

The participants also discussed possible steps to advance negotiations and the role of European countries in providing security guarantees for Ukraine. Zelenskyy said he had instructed Ukrainian officials to update relevant documents to ensure the guarantees are credible and that postwar reconstruction plans are practical.

Zelenskyy said the sides agreed to strengthen the guarantees and emphasized the importance of continued work by negotiating teams. He also called for a future trilateral meeting at the leaders’ level and thanked the U.S. representatives for their efforts to support a peace agreement.
