A 19-year-old man is in critical condition after being shot by police during an incident in Arana Hills, Queensland, on April 1. A crime scene has been declared at an address on Akebia Street.

Police said officers were conducting a welfare check at about 12:30 p.m. when they attempted to speak with the armed man. An altercation followed, during which officers shot him.

Officers provided first aid at the scene before the man was taken to hospital. The circumstances surrounding the shooting will be investigated by the Queensland Police Service’s Ethical Standards Command, with oversight from the Crime and Corruption Commission.
