Man Charged in Child Exploitation Investigation

A 28-year-old Coombabah man has been charged with rape and child sex offences following an investigation into the distribution of child exploitation material in southeast Queensland.

Queensland Police said the man was arrested in Edens Landing on January 6 by detectives from the Argos unit, with assistance from POLAIR and the Logan District Criminal Investigation Branch. He was charged with three counts of rape, four counts of indecently dealing with a child under 16, one count of distributing child exploitation material and two counts of indecent acts.

The man was expected to appear in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on January 7. Police said identifying children who may have been victims and removing them from harm was a key outcome of the investigation.

Detective Acting Inspector Scott Ballantyne said the arrest demonstrated the Queensland Police Service’s commitment to identifying people who use online platforms to conceal criminal activity. Police urged parents and carers to access online safety information through the Queensland Police Service, the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation and the eSafety Commissioner.
