Sunshine Coast authorities were alerted to an unusual sight when Paw Patrol intercepted a motorbike rider with a furry companion in Alexandra Headland over the weekend. The incident occurred on May 17, as officers from Sunshine Coast Highway Patrol noticed a dog strapped to the rider’s chest while conducting patrols on Alexandra Parade around 2pm.

The 35-year-old Maroochydore woman was promptly issued a $376 traffic infringement notice for riding with an animal between her arms. Senior Sergeant Shane Panoho emphasized the importance of maintaining proper control of a vehicle and ensuring an unobstructed view of the road at all times. He highlighted the potential risks posed by distractions, especially when involving pets on the road.

While the dog appeared comfortable on the bike, authorities stressed the need for riders to prioritize safety and responsible behavior on the roads. The Queensland Police Service aims to reduce road-related incidents by encouraging drivers to adhere to the ‘Fatal Five’ principles, which include avoiding speeding, driving under the influence, neglecting seatbelt use, combating fatigue, and minimizing distractions.

In light of this incident, the Queensland Police Service reminds the public that road safety is a collective responsibility. For more information on staying safe while driving in Queensland, individuals are encouraged to visit the official police website. Authorities also provided resources for emergency reporting and contact details for Crime Stoppers in case of any suspicious activities or concerns.
