Coalition Seeks Stronger Ukraine Support

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for increased military and financial support for Ukraine during a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing, attended by representatives of more than 30 countries. The meeting, held on Aug. 24, marked the coalition’s 16th gathering since its formation in February 2025.

Zelenskyy said Ukraine needs at least 300 Patriot interceptor missiles for the coming winter, warning that Russian ballistic missile attacks remain one of the country’s greatest threats. He also urged partners to expand funding, use frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine’s defense and help maintain access to the Black Sea maritime corridor.

UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham, chairing the meeting for the first time, said coalition members should replenish their air defense stocks and assist Ukraine. He said Britain was prepared to share Storm Shadow missile production technologies and called for support for the FREYJA project, which aims to develop a lower-cost alternative to Patriot systems for intercepting ballistic missiles.

French President Emmanuel Macron supported accelerating deliveries of interceptor missiles and strengthening sanctions against Russia’s shadow fleet. He also emphasized the need for coordinated security guarantees for Ukraine, assistance with energy preparations ahead of winter and continued support for the country’s future accession to the European Union.
