Ukraine, Finland Expand Defense Cooperation

Ukraine and Finland signed three memorandums aimed at expanding cooperation in defense technology, including land, maritime and air capabilities, according to Ukraine’s presidential office. The agreements were announced during a defense-industry roundtable attended by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Finnish President Alexander Stubb.

The documents cover the development and production in Finland of drones for Ukraine and Europe, expanded capabilities involving maritime unmanned systems, and the establishment of a facility producing unmanned ground robotic systems.

Representatives from seven Finnish companies attended the meeting: Boomeranger, Insta, Patria, Nokia, NestAI, Sensofusion and ICEYE. Zelenskyy said the agreements would combine Ukraine’s battlefield experience with Finnish technology and build on existing joint production efforts.

Stubb described the cooperation as mutually beneficial, saying Finland would support Ukraine in the short term while Ukraine’s experience could strengthen Finland’s security in the future. He also cited planned cooperation in areas including cyber and space capabilities, alongside broader security agreements between the two countries.
