Five Charged in Cairns Drug Operation

Five people have been charged with a total of 29 drug and weapons offences following a Queensland Police operation in Cairns’ northern suburbs. Police seized methylamphetamine, cannabis, ketamine, MDMA, LSD, an air rifle and more than $81,000 in cash during the investigation.

Detectives from the Major and Organised Crime Squad Far Northern, supported by several specialist units, executed six search warrants on Aug. 19 at properties in Palm Cove, Trinity Beach, Redlynch, Kewarra Beach and Yorkeys Knob.

Police allege the seizures included 500 grams of methylamphetamine, 560 grams of cannabis, four MDMA tablets, 16 LSD tabs, four grams of ketamine and drug-related equipment. Officers also seized an air rifle and cash suspected to be proceeds of crime.

The people charged include two men from Trinity Beach, a woman from Trinity Beach, a man from Redlynch and a man from Kewarra Beach. The accused face various charges, including drug possession, drug production, weapons offences and possession of property suspected to be stolen or linked to crime. Court appearances are scheduled in Cairns during September, while one man was refused police bail and appeared on Aug. 21.
