Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy chaired a meeting of the Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief on Aug. 14 to assess funding needs for the country’s Defense and Security Forces during the autumn-winter period. Officials identified shortfalls and additional requirements for developing advanced weapons, expanding production of strike capabilities and producing new defensive systems, including jet-powered interceptors. Intelligence agencies presented updated assessments of Russia’s plans. Zelenskyy said Ukraine was preparing a response and asymmetric countermeasures, while continuing to review the impact of long- and mid-range sanctions against Russia and adjust priorities under its sanctions program. National Security and Defense Council Secretary Ihor Klymenko reported on the implementation of decisions by the Staff and the council. Special services also briefed officials on targeted operations against collaborators in temporarily occupied territories, including Sevastopol. Zelenskyy said those involved in supporting Russian strikes against Ukraine would be held accountable.
